Environment

One of the most remarkable characteristics of this elegant aircraft is its extremely low noise levels, bound to have a positive impact on the passengers in the cabin and guaranteeing greater comfort. This feature is also be welcomed by residents close to airports. The MD-90’s noise levels are significantly below those of the competing products, the A320 and the Boeing 737. They are achieved by the two International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500-D5 engines, whose design concentrated on noise reduction. Furthermore, this engine’s state-of-the art technology means that it is still the leader in regards to low levels of noxious emissions such as NOX, CO and HC, which lie largely below those of competing aircraft engines.

In addition, the MD-90 consumes less fuel than its competitors. Fuel consumption per seat is 15% below that of the MD-80, better known in Switzerland. The combination of all these factors enables the Boeing MD-90 to rightly claim that it is an environmentally- and passenger-friendly aircraft.
